Dream of: 02 January 2020 (2) "Visiting New York City"

My old high school friend, Steve Buckner (1952-2012), and I are together in New York City in a car which he is driving. He stops the car and drops me off on a street right in the middle of the downtown area. I am supposed to meet him later today. He is supposed to visit me in the accommodations where I am currently living here in New York, and we are going to do something together. When I leave the car and start walking away, I think of the line "If I can make it here, I can make it anywhere" and how true that line is. I turn, look back at Steve, and holler exuberantly as loud as I can, "New York!"

I notice that I am wearing scruffy looking clothes, but I feel comfortable in them. It does not matter to me what I am wearing. I start walking down the street. Living in New York City feels great, and it looks as if I am going to be staying here. Many people are bustling on the street. It is funny how so many people can be walking together on the street at the same time like this and still manage not to run into each other.

I walk through the street and gaze on the little, dark-green shops, one after the other, which line the sidewalk. I am thinking about what I am going to do in New York - I am unsure. I actually could do some legal work here. Although I am not licensed to practice law in New York, I am still an attorney. I could probably find a job simply working in a law firm. I would not actually have to have a law license here just to have a job in a law firm. I might do that, although I would have preferred to have been in a foreign country. I like New York, but, in a European country where I spoke the language, I could have worked in international law and could have been able to use a foreign language which I spoke. I have enough money to live on. If I apply for a job somewhere, I will probably even write down that I have a couple hundred thousand dollars.  I do not have to work - I would just be working because I want to.

As I walk down the street and continue to think about what I am going to do here, I realize that I have walked too far and that I have passed the place where I am staying. After I turn around and start walking back the way I came, I board a vehicle. Only after I sit down inside, do I realize that I am sitting in the back of a tiny, fast-moving helicopter, and facing the rear. I look out the rear as the helicopter races above a freeway below. I did not know that helicopters could move this fast. I quickly see that the helicopter is going in the opposite direction from where I want to go. I think I could ask someone where I am going because I do not know where I am going to end up. I know that Steve may come to my place later. We were supposed to meet again in about four hours. I hope he calls first to make sure that I am there.

The helicopter is traveling so fast, I do not even think that I can stand up. I do need, however, to stand up and find out where I am going.

    Commentary of 04 January 2020

The story of the prophet Daniel's interpretation of king Nebuchadnezzar's dream of the statue with the golden head is deceptive on two counts. First, the statement that Daniel knew what the dream of Nebuchadnezzar was - before he (Daniel) was told the dream - is an untrue myth. Second, that Daniel could see into the future by examining the dream is also an untrue myth.

Two reliable rules of dream interpretation are: 1. One cannot know the dream of another without first being told the dream; 2: One cannot with certainty divine the actual future by interpreting the dream of another.

The story of Daniel's interpretation of the dream of Nebuchadnezzar is, therefore, deceptive, and should not be believed on its face. The theory, however, that dreams can be interpreted, is still valid, and the theory that the power to interpret dreams may sometimes derive from God - as expatiated in the book of Daniel - may also be valid.
